The Beginning or the End?

We live in the midst of a world filled with frightened people. A decade ago everyone worried about the effects of Y2K on the “information age” and faulty computer programming. Banking was destined to fail, cars were going to grind to a stop, and we were all going to return to a stone-age existence. January 1st, 2000 dawned a new century with a day that was the same as every other day, and the year came and went with a singular lack of technological demise or end-of-the-world chaos.

Now, as we enter into this New Year, the same frightened world is once again worrying about the future.

God Specializes in Performing the Impossible

Just over a year ago, I knelt with a group of our BCM Nepal ministry leaders and missionaries in the middle of a rice paddy to dedicate land for a church building nearby to where a BCM house church was meeting.

It seemed an impossible dream.

BCM International recently held a LEADS event in Sri Lanka. Nineteen BCM leaders from around Asia gathered together in one place to discuss BCM ministry in Asia and equip further ministry efforts. The leaders spent time reflecting on the 13 core ministry values of BCM and how to improve our spiritual leadership skills, learned about the three main religion groups of Asia and how to befriend them with the Gospel, and discussed how to further improve our accountability as missionaries and leaders.

Paul wrote a letter (2 Timothy 4:7-8) to young Timothy as an encouragement to serve faithfully in the ministry where God had placed him. These words came to mind as we recently celebrated 22 years of faithfulness by a BCM staff person here at the IMC.

BCM Is jumping on board and has launched several new ways to learn about BCM and keep up to date with what's happening in ministry around the world.

Over seven hundred million citizens qualified to cast a vote made India's recent elections the largest in human history. Much was at stake. Some would say India's very claim to be called a democracy.

Renewal of Leadership

Last month we celebrated the appointment of several new area leaders in BCM. I mentioned that the motivation of love enables servant-leaders to empower and affirm others in ministry. In Paul’s words above we see another facet of leadership, one that is proven only through time. It is faithfulness. I continue to be grateful both for God’s continuing renewal of servant leaders within BCM, and for each individual who has served faithfully year after year, in spite of great personal sacrifice.

Orissa Persecution Aid

Christian believers in Orissa, India are being persecuted for their beliefs in the one true God. Many Christian churches have been burned to the ground. Believers are dying every single day. Entire ministries that took years to build are being wiped out in a matter of hours. BCM International’s churches and ministries have not been spared from this persecution.
