"While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat,
summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease."
(Gen 8:22 MKJV)
We live in the midst of a world filled with frightened people. A decade ago everyone worried about the effects of Y2K on the “information age” and faulty computer programming. Banking was destined to fail, cars were going to grind to a stop, and we were all going to return to a stone-age existence. January 1st, 2000 dawned a new century with a day that was the same as every other day, and the year came and went with a singular lack of technological demise or end-of-the-world chaos.
Now, as we enter into this New Year, the same frightened world is once again worrying about the future, and arguing about how to avoid annihilation. Some are anxious about global warming while others fret about the economy. Still others are worried that the predicted “end of time” with happen in 2012.
As believers, we know that the world’s end will come when the King returns, but for us this holds anticipation instead of fear. In the meanwhile, our Heavenly Father’s promise to Noah will hold true: “While the earth remains seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” As children of the King, we will live each day in its fullness, and look forward to tomorrow for what it will bring in its time. One day, this world will be gone. The corruptible will be exchanged for the incorruptible, and the old will pass away and the new will come. It will be redemption fulfilled for those who are in Christ.
With this in mind, let us life this year filled with love, grace, and a sound heart and mind. No fear. No fretting. No anxiousness. Together let’s present the Gospel to this frightened world around us and show them that they need not fear any longer. They too can live today in the hope of tomorrows redemption.
Happy New Year.
Blessings,
Marty
